Competing with schools from across the state, Carbon, Emery and Pinnacle high schools’ track teams recently traveled to Provo to compete at the Mr. Mac/BYU Invitational.
In the 1A-2A category, the Emery boys’ team managed a fifth-place overall finish while the girls’ team managed to come in 32nd place. The Carbon Lady Dinos managed to tie in 30th as a team along with Riverton and Wasatch. Carbon boys and the Pinnacle Panthers also represented at the event.
The Lady Spartans put up points thanks to the girls’ sprint medley team, who grabbed sixth in the event finals.
The Emery boys’ team finished fifth in the sprint medley as well, while Freshman Braiden Ivie crossed at second in the 100 meters behind Delta’s Dallin Draper. Logan Cox continued scoring for Emery, coming in at fifth in the 400 meters.
Ivie took another second in the 200 meters while Cox finished sixth in the same contest. Ty Mecham finished third in the boys’ shot put finals while teammate Chase Jewkes finished third in the javelin contest to round out the Spartan points.
Carbon girls opened their scoring action with an eighth-place finish in the sprint medley. Senior Sarah Ohlwiler placed third overall in the girls’ long jump finals, despite sitting out Carbon’s last round of action.
Carbon’s next chances at victory will come at the team’s region contest, which will take place Wednesday and Thursday at Canyon View. Emery’s region meet will take place at the same time, only at Grand High School while Pinnacle will compete in Blanding.
