Carbon’s super sophomore Sarah Ohlwiler continued her impressive season on Saturday at the Blue Mountain Invitational in Blanding. Green River and Pinnacle were both in attendance as well. Emery participated in the Dixie Invitational in St. George.

Ohlwiler took home top honors in four categories, placing first in the 100, 100-meter hurdles, 300 hurdles and long jump. Carbon placed first in the girls division and third overall behind San Juan and Grand.

Green River took home fourth place while Pinnacle finished up in seventh out of nine teams.

Carbon Head Coach Jimmy Jewkes said Ohlwiler is the first female Dino runner to win four individual events in a single meet since 2012 when Regan Powell did it.

Besides Ohlwiler, fellow sophomore Sadie Crompton finished first in the 400 meters. Freshman Makara Morgan ran away with the 800 and Sophomore Emily Broadbear won the 1600 meters. Broadbear, Addie Taylor, Madelyn Christensen and Zaharah Rossi combined to take the sprint medley.

Jewkes stated that he only brought 12 girls and six boys to the meet because of Carbon prom and state history fair.

Green River’s had three first-place finishers. Jon Mendez took the high jump with a 5’8” jump. Corbin Mecham placed first in the shot put. Tyrell Shumway threw 20 feet further than the nearest hurler in the javelin, placing first. Cassidee Moore and Joe Serafin each had second place finishes as well.

Pinnacle’s Nyet Rasmussen placed third and fifth in the 100 and 200 meters, respectively. She also placed third in the 100-meter hurdles.

In St. George, the Spartans placed ninth out of 12 teams. Paytn Jeffs took home the only first-place finish for Emery, who took home top honors in the high jump. Ashlyn Allred placed second in both the 100 and 200 meters, earning her team 16 points. Erin Hurst, Camry Johnson, Laryssa Guymon, Raymon Brazier, the boy’s 4×400 team (Jaxon Bradley, Lane Taylor, Ty Funk and Jake Jensen) and the boy’s sprint medley team (Ashton Dielei, Logan Cox, Kolton Butler and Matt Mecham) all earned points for the Spartans.

All four teams will participate in the Eastern Utah Championships this Saturday in Price at Carbon High School.
