Two local Lego building teams qualified Saturday at the Carbon School District office for the First Lego League (FLL) regional competition to be held Jan. 28 in Salt Lake City.

Rockin’ Robots, comprised of a collection of participants throughout the local community, and Rambots from Helper earned their spots in the regional by finishing first and second, respectively.

Eight local teams competed in three events that incorporated the FLL theme of “Food Factor.” The events included an examination of food safety, a presentation about FLL core values, and a robot competition that required teams to program their own Lego robots that accomplished missions on a tabletop course.

FLL judges handed out the following awards:

  • First overall and Theme Project – Rockin’ Robots
  • Second overall and Robot Design – Rambots
  • Core Values presentation and Robot Competition – K-otik Robotick

Participants included Rockin’ Robots, Rambots, K-otik Robotick (Mont Harmon), Pirate Mindstormers (Mont Harmon), Autobots (Mont Harmon), Robocreeps (Moab), and Helper Jalapeno Hackers (Helper).

Approximately 20 volunteers helped with the competition.
