Lochner Engineering, along with Troy Torgeson from UDOT, were present at the Carbon County Commission meeting hosted on Wednesday evening. At the meeting, the engineering company brought presented its planning for the improvements that will be made to Ridge Road.

According to the PowerPoint presentation shown by the company, the purpose of the project is to improve safety by providing center turn lanes, widening the shoulders, providing a sidewalk and improving the sight distance near Roberson Road. Additional improvements that may be made to the road are better drainage and curb and gutter.

The project is in the beginning stages. The designs began back in the fall of 2015 and the contractor was selected in April of this year. There will be another commission meeting presentation that is scheduled for the fall of 2016 along with a public hearing around that time. The completed design is expected somewhere in the Winter of 2017 and the construction is slated to begin around summer of 2017 and last through summer of 2018. There will be a slight shut down of the road during this time.

Lochner Engineering’s first project in the area was SR 20. With this being their second project, a representative of the company stated that they are still learning about the area. Properties near the road will be impacted and have been informed of this. They are hoping to have everything set and ready when construction begins so that they impact of properties does not need to happen again.

The engineering company is looking at the possibility of making the road five lanes. On UDOT’s website, there is a map provided for anyone to view the project as it progresses. It will be updated all throughout the project and is available to everyone.
