Routine Traffic Stop Leads to Seizure of Methamphetamine, Arrest of One Man

On Tuesday at approximately 3:30 p.m., Capt. Feichko with the Wellington City PD initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle being operated by John Culp for a moving violation.

Wellington Officers Anderson and Olson assisted with the traffic stop during which it was learned that Culp was on Federal Probation.

Through the course of the traffic stop investigation, there were indicators that there may be illegal narcotics in the vehicle. A consent search was administered. Approximately three ounces of methamphetamine was located in the air box compartment, under the hood. There were also numerous empty baggies located in the vehicle. The empty baggies are commonly used to contain illegal narcotics for distribution.

Culp was arrested and booked into the Carbon County Jail on charges of possession of a controlled substance with the intent to distribute, possession of a controlled substance, and no insurance.

The report will be reviewed by the County Attorney for any additional charges.

Culp has a lengthy criminal history with numerous charges, involving being in possession of a dangerous weapon.
