Mary Kaye stole the show at Texaco County Showdown Saturday evening, winning the contest over a number of local competitors.
The Manti, UT native performed two original pieces to win the contest before an encoreВ performanceВ after theВ announcement.
Kaye beat out eight other contestants, one of which traveled from Arizona to participate in the event. Each singer sang twice before the winner was announced.
“This means a lot to me,” Kaye said to the crowd gathered at Washington Park for International Days. “Thank you all for being here and supporting us.”
Kaye will participate in the 2012 Utah Texaco Country Showdown finals at the Utah State Fair September 14 at 6 p.m.
