After Friday’s record-breaking performance in the 1600 meters, Carbon standout runner Garrett Marsing continued his torrid pace Saturday. Marsing broke two more school records and added a state title in the 3200 meters.

He began the day with a state title in the 3200 meters with a time of 9:46.10, three seconds ahead of second place. Friday, Marsing anchored the sprint medley team that broke the school record with a time of 3:33:69, although the team finished in third place behind Dixie and Cedar. Head coach Jimmy Jewkes said the top three times from the medley were the fastest times run in any classification this year.

Having particiapted in the 3200 meters earlier in the day, Marsing then took the track in the 800. He broke his own school record with a 1:54:00 and placed second.

In all, Marsing captured the 3A title in the 3200 and 1600-meter races, second in the 800 and third in the sprint medley.

Jewkes was amazed at Marsing’s performance.

“That was probably the best performance from a Carbon athlete in the past 20-30 years,” he said.
