Congressman Jim Matheson said he will vote for a bipartisan bill to allow legal concealed weapon permit holders from one state to legally carry in another state. The National Right-to-Carry Reciprocity Act –H.R. 822 – is scheduled to pass the House this week.
“Our gun laws should ensure that a responsible, law-abiding citizen is able to exercise their Second Amendment right to carry firearms,” said Matheson. “This common sense bill simplifies the piecemeal system of existing reciprocal agreements among the states.”
Matheson said there are thousands of Utahns who are concealed-carry permit holders. They have complied with Utah’s law to gain a state permit so that they can legally carry a weapon for self-defense. Matheson said passage of this bill will ensure that when Utahns travel to other states, they will be able to exercise their gun rights away from home.
