Maurices hosted a fashion show at its Price store on Saturday to show off what they’ll be selling this winter season.
Workers and others dressed in outfits that are sold at the store to give the audience ideas of what they might like to buy or wear this upcoming winter. There were outfits for winter, sleepwear, Christmas and New Years. Not only were there clothes put on display, they also showed the audience blankets and other accessories that one might like during this time of year.
However, the event was about more than just the newest winter fashions. That day, shoppers had the chance to give back. Those that visited the store were encouraged to bring a clothing donation for The Other Side Academy that serves Utah. In turn, those that donated received 20% off a single item at the store.
The Other Side Academy is a training school in which students learn pro-social, vocational and life skills, allowing them to emerge with a healthy life on “the other side.” This program is available as an alternative to those facing long-term incarceration as well those seeking a change from the life they’ve chosen in the past.
“Many of those who seek entrance into the Academy are convicts, substance abusers or homeless,” the academy shared. “This school accepts men and women, both pre-and post-sentencing, who are ready to learn a new and better way to live their lives.”
In addition to learning self-governance, students work, thus contributing to the Academy’s bottom line. The Academy is self-sustaining because of the income generated by the students along with donations.
