Sophomore Megan Jensen’s double double powered the Emery Lady Spartans to a 57-32 thrashing of the 3A Richfield Wildcats Thursday night in Castle Dale.

The 23 points scored by Jensen was a season high as was her 13 rebounds. Bailey Huggard nabbed eight boards in the game as well. Kacelyn Toomer added six more to go along with her five points. Her twin sister Kinlee was second on the team with 16 points.

Jensen netted her ninth and 10th points on the night with less than 30 seconds to play in the first quarter, giving Emery the 18-8 advantage after the opening period of play.

The Lady Spartans extended that lead to as many 15, 25-10, on a Kacelyn Toomer three with 1:30 remaining in the half. Emery enjoyed a 27-13 halftime lead.

After the Wildcats cut the lead to 10 in the opening seconds of the third, Jensen responded with four of her own to get the lead back over 10. That lead ballooned to 18, 38-20, after a Lainee Jensen three-point play at the three-minute mark. Huggard found the bottom of the net for her only bucket of the game with two seconds left to give the Lady Spartans a commanding, 47-28 lead after three quarters.

Emery outscored the cold-shooting Wildcats 10-4 in the final frame to take the non-region win.

The Lady Spartans (4-1, 0-0 Region 15) will travel to take on the Duchesne Lady Eagles (2-5, 0-0 Region 17) on Tuesday.
