Fun seekers gathered in Green River for the annual Melon Days celebration over the weekend. The event featured a parade, vendor booths and plenty of melon to go around.
The event also featured the Melon Days’ Seed Spitting Contest, sponsored by Habitat for Humanity of Castle Country. A new addition to the festivities was the melon speed eating contest sponsored by River Terrace Inn. In addition to contests, entertainment was provided by the Brian Ward Band, The Southern Betties and Clint Lee as well as multiple booths throughout the city’s park.
The Green River High School cheerleaders also took part in the festivities by hosting the Melon Run 5K on Saturday while the Green River Shooting Sports Park and Division of Wildlife Resources hosted a 3-Gun and Trap Shoot.
