The Helper American Legion squad picked up its fourth victory of the season Monday evening 11-10 against visiting Roosevelt.
Taylon Abeyta delivered an RBI single in the bottom of the seventh, helping Helper to the walk-off win. Abeyta led the Merchants with three hits in four at-bats, including three RBIs. Jayden Flemett knocked in four more, going 3-4 at the plate as well.
Helper took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Roosevelt responded with six runs in the third and fourth innings combined to take a comfortable lead. The Merchants exploded in the next three innings, notching nine runs to keep the game even. Abeyta singled in the bottom of the seventh for the win.
Helper was originally scheduled to play a doubleheader against Roosevelt on Monday. A makeup date for the second game has not been announced. Tuesday night’s game against Corner Canyon was rained out. Helper will next play at Dixie on June 21.
