As June approaches, members of the Mike Ballard Foundation have kept busy in preparation for the organization’s annual golf tournament, dinner and concert. As a break from the to-do list, two members of the foundation accepted the honor of being the Carbon County Chamber of Commerce’s May Community Service Spotlight.
Linda Ballard, wife of the late Mike Ballard, along with Rose Barnes took time at the chamber’s monthly luncheon to thank those in attendance for their constant support over the years. The foundation began eight years ago with the inaugural golf tournament. Now, the annual fundraiser has grown to include not only a competition on the golf course, but a dinner and concert as well.
Each year, the fundraiser aims to help local families, organizations and individuals in need. In 2017, area youth will directly benefit from the funds raised. All of the proceeds will be used to pay athletic fees for low income students at Carbon School District. The aim for this donation is to allow any student that wants to participate in athletics the chance, regardless of associated costs.
The golf tournament will kick off the fundraiser in the early morning of June 24. A dinner will follow, beginning at 6:30 p.m., at the Carbon County Event Center. Local performers Wes & Steve will then take the stage at 7 p.m., followed by Natural Causes at 8 p.m.
