A new wreath was placed at the Coal Miners Memorial on Main Street in Price on the morning of Aug. 23. The wreath was made in special memory of a number of miners by their family members and closest friends. This group of adults “ran around together and went to school together,” making this a very special moment for them.

The wreath dedication served as remembrance ceremony for four miners that lost their lives forty years ago. On August 25, 1979, a 10-man crew working for Plateau Mining Co. was removing timbers from a section that had already been mined when a huge slab of rock fell. Kerry Grange, of Huntington; Mike Guzman, of Price; Bill Gentry, of Price; and Kim Nightingale, of Carbondale, Colo. lost their lives in the accident. Allan Austin of Price sustained injuries and was hospitalized.

Participants came together to place the wreath and reminisce of good times passed while remembering those that lost their lives forty years ago.
