Miss Carbon County Outstanding Teen Victoria Nelson was presented during the July 6 Carbon County Commission meeting. The pageant this year had seven contestants with Nelson coming out on top.

Nelson spoke with the commissioners to introduce her platform. She created the organization DREAM, which stands for Don’t Run, Embrace Autism Matters. Nelson’s brother has autism and she had the idea to create a support system for families and those who also have autism. Her long-term plan is to start a new chapter of autism awareness in Carbon County.

The commissioners congratulated Nelson on being crowned. Nelson then asked commissioners for $500, which would cover her fee for nationals. An initial fee was set aside previously for Miss Carbon County in the amount of $1,000. However, Miss Carbon County and Miss Carbon County Teen are technically two different entities. The commissioners agreed to allow the fee and have it be permitted from their budget as long as a documented invoice was presented.
