Seven contestants vied for the Miss Emery County Pageant title Saturday evening at the Spartan Center in Castle Dale.
By night’s end, MarKette Tanner was crowned winner andВ received a $2,000 scholarship. Tanner’s platform for the next year is entitled Operation Smile.
Kelcy Faimalo was awarded 1st attendant and Marissa Urie was named 2nd attendant. Urie also was awarded MissВ Congeniality.
Kelsey Gordon, Rachel Rogers, MariLyn Malan, and Hailee Rogers also participated in the pageant.
The contestants performed an opening number after an introduction by Emery County Commissioner Laurie Pitchforth. Pitchforth then turned the time over to Mike Mower who then emceed the rest of the night.
Those in attendance were then treated to talent performances by the seven contestants. The talents consisted of a lyrical dance by Gordon, piano solos by Malan, Faimalo, and Tanner, and vocal solos by Hailee Rogers, Rachel Rogers, and Urie.
Following the talent competition, Gracie Huntington and McCall Spears, Little Miss Emery 2012 and Miss Emery County 2011, respectively, then performed.
Contestants then explained their platforms and answered questions ranging from “what is one of your dreams?” to “what has been your most significant accomplishment?” The evening gown portion of the evening then followed.
While judges deliberated on a winner, a slide show was shown on the life of Christanne Nelson, Miss Emery County 1996. The slide showВ chronicledВ her life which has included the adoption of five children from China as well as three other biological children.
Spears then took one last walk around the stage at Miss Emery County.
“This was a very rewarding experience,” she said just before theВ announcement. “It was an honor to be Miss Emery County.”
The night concluded with the crowning of Tanner as Miss Emery County 2012.
