An Emery County man was found by helicopter with the help of the Emery County Sheriff’s Office and the Department of Public Safety on Tuesday.

According to the sheriff’s office, local deputies along with other agencies were training near Green River at the time. When a call to help find a missing man was put out, those training stepped up to locate the man with the use of a Department of Public Safety (DPS) helicopter.

“The man was riding his ATV on the desert yesterday when he became separated from his party,” the sheriff’s office reported Tuesday evening. “He got disoriented and ran out of fuel trying to find the way back to his truck. The man spent the night on the desert and was located this morning on the Temple Mountain road. He was approximately 15-20 air miles from his vehicle.”

The man was found safely by the rescue team. The sheriff’s office credits the safe mission to a working relationship with DPS as well as a 500 gallon Jet A fuel trailer.

“The trailer was staged at the exercise site and was used to refuel the DPS helicopter,” the sheriff’s office shared. “This saves valuable search time because the helicopter does not have to fly to the nearest airport to refuel.”

The identity and status of the found man have not been released at this time.
