In Round 2 of the World Off-Road Championship Series event in Nevada over the weekend, Price native Robbie Mitchell earned a second place finish on his quad.

Round two was held at Buffalo Bills in Primm, Nev.

“We have had so much snow on the ground the last month that I hadn’t thrown my leg over a bike or quad since round 1 (Jan 10),” Mitchell said. “So I wasn’t sure how the weekend was going to turn out.”

After practicing on Friday and Saturday and feeling great, Mitchell took to the track on Sunday for the main event.

“The race started okay but not quite how I had wanted,” Mitchell said. “I was sleeping on the start and came out in third place.”

Halfway through the first lap Mitchell was able to pass another rider for second place. He held the position for another four-and-a-half laps until a few mistakes pushed him back to third.

“We pitted afterward and I regrouped the best I could,” he said. “I pushed hard but couldn’t make up the distance between second place and myself.”

Luck would be on Mitchell’s side, though, as the leader blew his engine on the last lap and Mitchell was able to finish in second.

“I hate gaining a position that way, but finishing is part of racing,” he said.

Round three will take place on Feb. 28 in Las Vegas.

“I couldn’t be happier with how everything turned out despite not riding in such a long time.” he concluded. “I had a brutal reminder that there is no substitute for riding at this level.”
