Mont Harmon Middle School hosted the Carbon School District spelling bee, which took place on Thursday morning.
Parents and friends were welcome to the school’s auditorium to watch the students compete with one another, spelling various words that they have been studying and working hard to learn.
The number of students slowly diminished until only three were left, who then had to compete and see who would win first, second and third place. The end of the bee was briefly interrupted by a fire alarm that went off due to a malfunctioning fog machine that was being tested for an upcoming dance.
The winners of the Carbon School District spelling bee are as follows: Lizzy Blackburn, fifth grade, third place. Eighth grader Katelynn Vasquez took second place and the first place went to James Bryner, also in eighth grade.
These students and the winners of the other district bees will compete in the regional spelling bee competition that will take place in Green River on the March 8..
