A recent Carbon County Chamber of Commerce luncheon paid tribute to a local organization as well as a business that were both praised by chamber members of their work in the community.

First to the podium was Brittnie Arroyo, one of the key leaders for Back the Blue. Arroyo took time to explain the birth of Back the Blue, an organization aimed to provide support and encouragement for local law enforcement officers. Back the Blue started simply as an organized walk in the 2016 International Day parade, but has since grown beyond that.

Now, Back the Blue offers scholarships to individuals that wish the attend POST (Peace Office Standards and Training), but can not afford it on their own. Back the Blue organizers work closely with local departments, such as Price City Police and Carbon County Sheriff’s Office, to provide these scholarships to those in need.

Also at the luncheon, the Carbon County Chamber awarded its business of the month designation to the Sun Advocate. Editor John Serfustini was in attendance at the luncheon the accept the honor and take time to explain the business’ workings in the local area.

The Sun Advocate will have the honor of displaying the chamber’s “Business of the Month” sign in front of its location on Main Street.
