The Monticello Buckaroos stole both games away from the Pinnacle Panthers Tuesday night in Price. The Pinnacle boys lost 57-44 and the girls were upended 46-13.
After leading by five after one quarter of play, the Buckaroos responded in the second quarter to take a two-point lead into halftime, 25-23. Steady play by Monticello in the third and fourth earned it its first Region 19 victory. Pinnacle falls to 1-1 in region play and 7-4 overall.
Jorrdan Richardson led a balanced Pinnacle offense with 11 points, five assists and four boards. Val Acosta snagged a team-high eight rebounds to go along with nine points. Noah Mascarenas and Levi Rutherford pitched in eight and seven points, respectively.
The girls’ team had a rougher time, scoring just 13 points on the night. Bobbie Syrett lead the Lady Panthers with five points. Dellenie Paletta pitched in four. With the loss, Pinnacle has yet to win a game and falls to 0-9 on the year, including a 0-2 mark in Region 19 play.
Both teams will make the trip to Montezuma Creek to take on Whitehorse (girls 0-1, 0-0 Region 19, boys 0-0) on Friday. The boys will play at 5:30 p.m. and the girls will follow at 7:30.
