The First Year GEAR UP program at USU Eastern as well as other colleges and universities is designed to support GEAR UP students throughout their first year in college. GEAR UP is a program that joins with schools and communities to assist students and parents in making their goals a reality.

National GEAR UP week will be celebrated on September 19 through 23. Thousands will be celebrating National GEAR UP week and the work that is completed to bridge the gaps in educational achievement and help students attend college.

The local USU Eastern program is serving over two hundred 11th and 12th grade students attending Carbon, Pinnacle, Lighthouse, Emery and Green River high schools. They are also assisting GEAR UP participants who are transitioning into their freshman year of college.

GEAR UP has teamed with teachers and administrators to offer one-on-one academic support, college advising, readiness classes, during and after-school tutoring, activities and workshops aimed toward preparing students for the ACT, and field trips such as the Rocky Mountain Association for College Admission Counseling College Fair taking place on October 1.

During National GEAR UP week, college related activities will be completed at each local high school that will aim at building a stronger college going culture within the communities. For more information, please visit usueastern.edu/price/gearup or call (435) 613-5648.
