Press Release

Would you like to spend a weekend on the forest, but don’t look forward to tent camping? Don’t want to haul the trailer all the way to the top of the mountain, just for a night or two? If so, the Forest Service has good news for you.

Two additional rental cabins on the Manti-La Sal National Forest are now available to reserve for dates beginning this summer. The Mammoth and Lake Cabins are located just off SR-264 near Gooseberry Reservoir, just off Skyline Drive. Constructed in the 1930s by the CCC, the two cabins served as a Forest Service administrative site for many decades.

Each of the refurbished cabins can accommodate up to four people and are available for rental in 2018 from June 16 to Sept. 30 for $50 per night. The cabins can be reserved either individually or together.

Both cabins have drinking water with a flush toilet and shower in the bathrooms; kitchens are equipped with sinks, stove and simple cookware (pots/pans, silverware, utensils). A refrigeration unit is not available in either cabin so visitors should plan accordingly. Basic cleaning supplies are also provided along with toilet paper. Each cabin has two sets of bunk beds with mattresses. The Mammoth Cabin has a wood burning stove as an additional source of heat. Firewood will be provided. Between the two rental cabins sits a garage that is still being used by Forest Service personnel, so visitors are asked not to park in front of the garage doors.

In order to make reservations or to get more information about these two cabin rentals, go to www.recreation.gov and search for Mammoth Cabin. Further information is also available by contacting Forest Service offices in Price, Ferron, or Ephraim, or by going to the Manti-La Sal National Forest website.
