New details have been released involving the tragic murder-suicide thatВ occurred in Helper on Sunday.

At 12:46p.m. authorities were dispatched to a call of В shots fired at the address of 118 Bryner street. When police arrived on scene they heard gunfire from behind the house.В Officers on scene found two deceased male subjects outside in what appeared to be a murder-suicide. В Several children were in the home at the time but were unharmed.

Helper City Police officers were assisted by officers from surrounding agencies at the scene. Through the investigation it was determined that 30-year-old Jeromie Bunch of Helper, walked from his residence to the home of his estranged wife a few blocks away where he confronted the 31-year-old victim, James Mitchell of Helper. Mitchell, who was on the back porch of the home at the time, was fatally shot and killed by Bunch with a handgun. The suspect then fled into a garage on the property where he took his own life. Bunch’s estranged wife was able to protect the five children in the home by gathering them into a room, keeping them safe from harm.

“The tragic murder-suicide that took place will have a long term impact on the families of James Mitchell and Jeromie Bunch, as well as the community. The victim, Mr. Mitchell leaves behind three young daughters and his extended family,” said Helper Police Chief Trent Anderson. The suspect leaves behind two young sons, his estranged wife, and his extended family.

An account has been set up at Wells Fargo bank in the name of, “Bunch/Mitchell Children,” to help with two sets of children who have lost their fathers from this incident.
