Darshell LeRoy from the Emery County Recreation presented a plan for an ice-skating rink to be built in Castle Dale during the city’s recent council meeting. After discussing site options for the rink, it was the majority decision that the parking lot east of the recreation building would be the best place. The city was happy to work with the recreation department but tabled the motion pending more explicit plans and liability issues. This will be on next month’s agenda.
Also at the meeting, a public hearing was opened to hear comments about rezoning the property of Mick and Lorie Rogers. No comments were made so the hearing was closed. Upon the recommendations of the Land Use Committee, the rezoning from light industrial to residential was approved.
Amanda Leonard, Emery County’s event coordinator, requested a fee-waiver for the Blue Sage Arena use for cowboy games during the Joe’s Fest, the annual bouldering festival. The council decided to be a co-sponsor with the county and thus granted the free use of the arena.
A temporary land use state code 10-9a-504 was adopted by a vote of four to one and a resolution canceling a general election in Castle Dale was also adopted as there is only one person who has filed for each of the positions up for re-election.
Code enforcement officer Jared Lofthouse then took time to discuss cargo containers parked various places in the city and the legal procedures to move those in violation of ordinances. Next, zoning administrator Kerry Lake showed the new application for short-term rental licenses drafted by the Land Use Committee. Fire chief and maintenance foreman Ignacio Arien discussed his department’s activities regarding inspections.
It was also reported at the meeting that the youth city council is growing and has three active members at present. Finally, the mayor outlined the Special Service District projects for Castle Dale for the next three years.
