Press Release

The first layer of asphalt was completed last Saturday, August 30.

There will be no paving work in Nine Mile Canyon this week. Neilson has pulled the crews to complete other work.

Work will begin on the second lift, the SMA layer, Monday, September 8. The paving crew and associated traffic and equipment will be pulled back from Cottonwood Canyon and begin at the Old Soldier Creek Mine Site, continuing east as they did with the first asphalt layer.

It is estimated that this final lift of the SMA placement will take approximately three weeks to complete through September, barring flooding or other inclement weather conditions.

Beginning September 8, flagger operations and other traffic control will again be in place. Travelers should expect 30-45 minute delays each direction.

Please watch for haul trucks, equipment and workers in both directions while travelingl the canyon.
