USU Eastern Press Release

A sixth-straight conference victory over Colorado Northwestern earned the 9th ranked USU Eastern women’s volleyball team its first Scenic West Athletic Conference title in school history. Sweeping the Spartans (25-14, 25-16, 25-16), the Lady Eagles clinched the #1 seed and first round bye in the upcoming Region 18 Tournament.

Sophomore right side hitter Sunny Perry led the way for USU Eastern, putting up 11 kills with a .320 hitting percentage. Sophomore middle blocker Lindsey Otero was close behind with nine kills and hitting .500 in the game. Organizing the offense was sophomore setter Ashlee McUne with 23 assists and sophomore libero Emma Ricks protected the backcourt with 22 digs.

“We’ve had a great run in the second half of conference play and for this team to bring home our first conference title is well deserved for the work they have put in,” said head coach Danielle Jensen. “We still have work to do and a tournament to prepare for. That is our focus right now so that we can find ourselves in Kansas in a few weeks.”

USU Eastern (19-7, 8-2) will travel back to Rangely, Colorado this week as they participate in SWAC Region 18 Tournament hosted by Colorado Northwestern Community College. The single-elimination tournament will take place on Friday, Nov. 5 and Saturday, Nov. 6. USU Eastern will go into the tournament as the #1 seed and all other seeding will be determined following final conference matchups on Saturday afternoon.
