The heat was scorching and so were the bats on Saturday as Helper Legion pounded out 19 hits in an 11-7 win over West in league action. Helper followed it up with another 14 hits in a 13-0 victory over Corner Canyon Monday.
Against West, Jarod Lessar threw two solid innings, striking out five of the first six batters he faced. In the third he struggled as he gave up five runs, a pair of walks and four hits. Helper was up 6-0 when West pulled within one.
Cole Fossat took the mound and finished off the game, allowing West just two runs the rest of the way. The Helper offense took care of the rest by piling on five more runs to end the game.
Bryce Blackburn, Jordan Mellen, Ridge Nielson, Derek Young, Jaren McCourt, Tyler Procarione and Jarod Lessar all had multiple hits on the day. McCourt led the offensive attack with a double and a homerun and Blackburn had an impressive 4-4 effort with four singles.
“We really hit the ball well and recorded 19 hits as a team, “ Helper Coach Jeff Cisneros said. “Overall, we played very good as West is a very good team and was only a game behind us in the league standings. The win put us 6-1 in league.”

New to legion play this year, Corner Canyon was no match for Helper on Monday and fell 13-0 to a hot-hitting Helper squad. Dakota Cisneros pitched a complete game one-hitter.
The offensive production continued as Helper pounded out ten runs in the first two innings. It finished things off with three in the fifth.
Blackburn continued to stay hot at the plate, going 3-3 with two singles and a triple. Mike Peczuh and Brandon Oliver also had multiple hits. The team had 14 hits on the night.
