Carbon County is proposing to increase its property tax revenue by increasing the Carbon County Municipal Services Fund tax rate.
The Carbon County Municipal Services Fund tax on a $150,000 residence would increase from $25.99 to $216.48, which is $190.49 per year.
The Carbon County Municipal Services Fund tax on a $150,000 business would increase from $47.25 to $393.59, which is $346.34 per year.
If the proposed budget is approved, the Carbon County Municipal Services Fund would increase its property tax budgeted revenue by 733% above last year’s property tax budgeted revenue, excluding eligible new growth. The total property tax levied on a primary residence in the unincorporated area of Carbon County would increase by 16.92%. A property within the incorporated town of Scofield or the incorporated cities of East Carbon City, Helper, Price and Wellington would have no property tax increase.
All concerned citizens are invited to a public hearing on the tax increase, at which the County Commission will explain the reasons for the proposed increase and at which the public may provide comments to the County Commission regarding the proposed tax increase. The public hearing will be held in conjunction with the public hearing on the 2020 Carbon County budget.
