A special presentation was given during the December Helper City Council meeting to officer Chris Gigliotti.
Reported to the council members and listening crowd by Mayor Ed Chavez, on November 11 at 8:30 a.m., Officer Gigliotti was alerted to a vehicle that had been driving recklessly in the canyon toward Carbon County. Gigliotti attempted to make a routine stop with the driver, which proved unsuccessful.
The vehicle, a Dodge truck, was towing a trailer that had a Jeep on it. Multiple agencies including Utah Highway Patrol, the Carbon County Sheriff’s Office and others attempted to stop the driver. Once the vehicle arrived in Price, the driver ventured down a dead-end road and came to a stop.
The driver then fled from the vehicle and was captured by officers. The vehicle in question was reported stolen out of the Salt Lake Valley area. There was also nearly $22,000 worth of stolen construction equipment inside the vehicle. The person involved was arrested on multiple charges including possession of meth with intent to distribute.
“Officer Gigliotti, thank you very much,” Mayor Chavez stated.
Helper City Police Chief Trent Anderson also took a moment to speak, stating that any time a vehicle has stolen property it is difficult to locate the owner. However, through Gigliotti’s persistence, he was able to locate an owner and return the property. The owner was so grateful that he donated a large sum of money to this year’s Electric Light Parade.
Officer Gigliotti then shook hands with Mayor Chavez and was presented with a plaque for his efforts.
