Press Release

On October 9, 2015 Conservation Officer James Thomas received information about a dead 4×4 bull elk near Whit Knoll, on Wagon Ridge, off of the east side of Skyline Drive, in Sanpete County. The area is in a spike-only unit. The bull was reportedly missing the back straps and front quarters. When Officer Thomas hiked in the next day to investigate, more of the elk meat had been taken, but the head remained at the scene. A blue Chevrolet Z71 pickup truck with a lift kit and stickers in the rear window was observed in the area on both days.

Officers would like to speak to the occupants of the truck. If anyone knows who owns a truck matching that description, that might have been in the area around October 8 and 9, DWR officers would like to hear from them. If anyone has information that may assist officers in locating the vehicle or about who may be responsible for killing the branched antlered bull during the spike hunt, please contact the UTIP hotline at 1-800-662-DEER or your local DWR office. A reward may be available and your identity will remain confidential.
