The Spikers Rodeo Club hosted the first high school rodeos of the spring season at the Golden Spike Arena in Ogden Friday and Saturday. Several members of Carbon and Emery rodeo teams participated and placed in the top ten, earning points toward state finals.
Carbon Dino Morgan Jensen finished seventh in poles and eighth in barrels. In the rifle shoot, Dinos Kolton Rhodes had two seconds, Hagen Campbell a third and fifth, and Kagen Rhodes a fifth and eighth. Kagen Rhodes also won first in the trap shoot competition. Cameron King placed 12th in pole bending and qualified but didn’t receive any points.
Emery Spartan Bowdie Jacobsen placed first in tie down and third in team roping with partner Haygen Kogianes. Spartans MaKayla Jensen and partner Kolton Iverson were fifth in team roping, while Jensen also placed eighth in breakaway roping. Wyatt Magnuson and Hayden Cloward placed sixth and ninth, respectively, in tie down roping. Trinity Payne scored fourth in trap shoot. Emery’s Riata Christiansen was crowned queen of the weekend rodeos.
Both teams will be hosting their home rodeos this coming weekend. Friday’s rodeo will take place at the Carbon arena and Saturday’s will be in Castle Dale. This is the time of year to come out and see these local cowboys and cowgirls in action.
