Panthers Begin Season on Hot Streak

The Pinnacle Panther baseball team has won seven of its first nine games on the season, including a 17-7 win over Diamond Ranch on Thursday in a tournament in Richfield.

Included in the Panther’s 7-2 record in a 6-5, walk-off win over rival Green River Tuesday, which gave the Panthers their first region win of the year. Jaxson Carlisle tossed the complete game, allowing just one earned run while striking out a whopping 14 batters. Zach Gibson scored the winning run on a Christian McLean sacrifice fly to left field to end the game. Gibson led the inning off with a double and advanced to third on passed ball, setting up the winning run.

Pinnacle took a doubleheader at St. Joseph’s on July 31, taking game one 8-6 and the second 12-7. The Panthers followed that up with a 2-1 showing in a tournament in Orderville on Aug. 2-4. They were nipped by Tintic in game one, 3-2, and then beat Diamond Ranch and Rockwell by a combined scored of 19-4 to wrap up the tourney.

The Panthers returned home on Thursday evening after another tournament appearance, this time in Richfield, in which they finished with a 2-1 record. Pinnacle thumped Draper APA 18-1 to kick off the tournament on Wednesday. Piute then handed the Panthers their second loss of the season in game two on Wednesday, 17-6. A 17-7 win over Diamond Ranch took place on Thursday, rounding out the tourney.

Carlisle has pitched 15.1 innings thus far on the young season, registering a 0.50 ERA and 28 strikeouts. He has also contributed 9 RBIs to go along with a .444 batting average at the plate. Gibson is hitting .500 with 24 stolen bases. Michael Schmitz has a home run on the season coupled with a .425 BA. McLean, (.475 BA, 12 RBIs) Riley Wilson (.530 BA, 6 RBIs) and Stetson Motte (.500 BA) help lead the charge offensively for the Panthers.

Pinnacle will play a region game at Wayne on Tuesday and another road tilt on Thursday against Diamond Ranch.
