Press Release
The USU Eastern music department is excited to offer an opportunity for the community in January. This coming year marks the 100th anniversary of women’s suffrage in Utah, and USU President Noelle E. Cockett has declared the 2019-2020 school year to be “The Year of the Woman.”
In conjunction with this, the piano faculty received a grant to present a concert of piano works by a female composer. The world-premiere of a piano duo by Minneapolis composer Wynn-Anne Rossi will first take place in Logan, then in Price on Wednesday, Jan. 22.
In addition, there will be a master class offered that afternoon for aspiring musicians, and Dr. Cahill Smith will be offering a class on piano technique. Several serious piano students will be selected to play for the master class, which is not limited to female participants.
If you would like to be considered for this opportunity, you may audition on Friday, Jan. 17 at 3:30 p.m. in USUE’s Central Instruction Building, Room 120. Please email Elise Tuttle at elise.tuttle@usu.edu to reserve a spot.
Community members and music students from local schools and private music instructors are all encouraged to take advantage of this unique opportunity, just two months away. We hope you make plans to attend this educational opportunity and celebration of the tremendous contributions of women in the world of music.
