The Panthers and Pirates met in Duchesne over the weekend along with five other teams at a varsity tournament. Games were played in a best two-out-of-three format.

Green River notched the win in the matchup with Pinnacle, going 25-9 and 25-22. The Lady Pirates also won against Merit Academy in two games. The team fell behind against Tabiona, Intermountain Christian, Duchesne and Tintic, taking losses.

“I think we actually did really well for who we are and where we are at right now,” Green River head coach Kristi Brady explained. “Most importantly, they had a lot of fun. All of them were very up and very positive about how they did.”

Three subs also traveled with the team for the tournament, stepping up when needed in the games.

“I was excited with how my players played off the bench,” Brady said. “I took three subs with me and they came off the bench and they played really well.”

The Pirates will next gear up for a home match against Grand on Tuesday. Going against the 2A team, Brady said Green River is going to have to step up and make some changes on the defensive end.

“Realistically, we are going to have to play really good defense,” Brady explained. we are going to have to change up how we do our defense and how we do our blocking.”

The matchup against the Grand Red Devils can be viewed on ETV Channel 10 at 6:15 p.m.
