The Pinnacle Canyon Panthers played their final home game of the season Thursday night and earned a big 61-51 win over region rival Whitehorse. They led from start to finish in a fast paced, physical match-up.
The Panthers opened the game on a 9-2 run before Whitehorse pulled it close. But as quickly as the score tightened, Pinnacle widened the gap again. It was 35-23 at the half.
Tempers got a little hot at the end of the third and Pinnacle shot a a couple of free throws as Whitehorse earned a technical.
The final period of play remained intense, but Pinnacle remained in control and pulled off the win.
“That was a little intense,” stated coach Cameron Gardner following the game. “But it was a great way to end before heading to the playoffs. It was a fun team effort.”
Pinnacle will face Telos in Richfield next Tuesday in their first round game of the state 1A tournament.
The seniors all had good performances in their final home game. Cody Dean Sanchez finished with 21 points and 15 rebounds for a double-double. Jackson Nichols had one of the biggest games of his career with 12 assists, five points and six rebounds. Wyatt Howard put up six points, five rebounds and two steals and Bronson Hammer added four points, three steals, one rebound and an assist.
