Senior citizens celebrated the 21st National Senior Health and Fitness Day at the Carbon County Senior Center on Wednesday.
The purpose of the event was to educate seniors about exercise, maintaining a healthy diet and managing health conditions. It also provided local healthcare providers an opportunity to inform seniors of their services. Many local doctors in the community hosted free clinics while numerous healthcare providers set up booths to provide information.
Elaine Marietti, an event visitor, said the healthcare representatives were very helpful and that the event was very informative.
Pamphlets and healthy snacks, among other things, were part of the free giveaways. Drawings and activities, including a “Chair Olympics,” gave seniors the opportunity to win prizes.
The event was hosted by the UMWA Health & Retirement Funds and Carbon and Emery healthcare providers.
