Helper City and Adams Fine Arts welcomed artists from near and far to the area throughout the weekend to take part in the Helper Plein Air Festival.
Beginning with the main event and registration, those that participated in the contest enjoyed a myriad of activities such as Plein Air “The Movie” at the Rio Theater, a jazz concert celebration, and the awards and gallery walk ceremony that took place on Friday evening. Those that enjoyed the award ceremony were then able to walk right onto Helper’s Main Street and also take part in the First Friday celebration that coincided.
The guest juror for the festival was Michael Workman, who specializes in landscapes that depict the visual appeal of the American West. Workman resided in Helper for a three-month period in 2017 for a sabbatical and has been cited as painting scenes from that visit for years now.
First place at the event went to Anne Kaferle followed by C.J. Hales in second and Andrejz Skorut in third. The paintings featured in the Plein Art Festival were created by over 40 artists and will be available for purchase until Nov. 1 at Adams Fine Arts, located at 115 South Main Street in Helper.
