Price City Police Department Press Release

On Thursday just after 11:30 a.m., a traffic accident with a resulting power outage was reported at 540 W Price River Dr.

The driver and lone occupant of the involved vehicle was eastbound on Price River Dr. from 600 W at an apparent high rate of speed. He crossed out of the eastbound lane, into the westbound lane, jumped the curb onto the sidewalk and grass in front of Chrysalis, and then collided into two ground mounted transformer boxes, and then an 8” thick cement wall dividing the Chrysalis lawn and parking area. This collision caused the vehicle to pivot counterclockwise 180 degrees, (now facing westbound) take out a tree and fire hydrant on the west side of the lot, and finally to collide into another tree and come to rest against that tree on the east side of the Chrysalis parking lot. Two nearby vehicles were damaged from flying debris and shrapnel.

The driver, identified as Kurt Killian, DOB 4-2-81 from Elko, Nev., had to be extricated by Price City firemen, and was subsequently transported to Castleview Hospital by Carbon County Ambulance personnel. On scene, officers allegedly detected the odor of alcohol on Killian. At the hospital, Killian was placed under arrest for DUI, and Price City Officers TJ Robertson and Jared Hansen obtained a warrant, and a blood draw was completed.

Upon being medically cleared, Killian was cited and booked into the Carbon County jail for DUI (alcohol). Upon review of the report, a number of other charges will be considered by the city attorney for formal filing.

Traffic accident reconstruction was conducted and Killian’s speed just prior to impact was determined to be 65 MPH. This speed was allegedly also confirmed anecdotally by numerous eyewitnesses in the area.

The Carbon County Sheriff’s Office, Utah Highway Patrol, Price City personnel, Rocky Mountain Power employees, Emery Telcom and other entities responded to assist.

Power to the east and west of the event was interrupted from damage caused by the accident.
