Preliminary Hearings Extended for Suspects in Child Sex Abuse Case

Preliminary hearings were rescheduled today in 7th District court for three suspects charged with over 15 first-degree felonies of sexually abusing a child.

Timothy and Amanda Romano, along with their roommate Tyler Barney,В appearedВ before Judge Douglas B. Thomas as scheduled. However, it was the wish of the court to reschedule the preliminary hearings to allow counsel to gather and review further associated information.

Timothy Romano is В charged with two counts of aggravated sex abuse of a child, a first-degree felony, in connection with one child. Amanda Romano is charged with five counts of object sex abuse of a child, five counts of sodomy on a child, and four counts of aggravated sex abuse of a child, all first-degree felonies, in connection with two children.Tyler Barney is charged with two counts of sexually abusing a child. Currently investigators believe six children have been involved, one who lived in the Romano household has since been removed by DCFS. The crimes are believed to have taken place over a two year period in the Carbon County area.

The preliminary hearing for Timothy Romano is now scheduled for January 7,2013 at 12:15p.m. Attorney Sam Chiara requested the extension to review further inforamtion.

The preliminary hearing for Tyler Barney is scheduled for January 18, 2013 at 9a.m. Attorney Travis Blackburn requested the extension to review further information.

The preliminary hearing for Amanda Romano is scheduled for January 7, 2013 at 12:15p.m. Attorney David Allred requested the extension to review further information and file petitions regarding Amanda Romano’s competency.
