Press Release

The Price City Fire Department wants the community to enjoy a great and safe Thanksgiving holiday. Thanksgiving is the peak day for cooking fires, and turkey fryer fires contribute to this number, so we’d like to discuss a few safety points.

  • A partially frozen turkey will cause the oil in the fryer to splatter and will ignite. Make sure your turkey is completely thawed before frying. Only cook outdoors.
  • Turkey fryers can easily tip over, spilling hot oil over a large surface. Be mindful to keep your cooker on a stable surface away from common combustibles. Also maintain a three foot “child and pet free zone” near your cooker.
  • An overfilled fryer is in danger of boiling over and causing a fire. Ensure the amount of oil you will need beforehand by measuring the level with water.
  • Turkey fryers can easily overheat. Constantly monitor your temperatures.
  • The pot, lid and handles will be extremely hot. Use only with durable and long cooking gloves that protect both your hands and arms.

Let’s make this holiday safe and enjoyable. Thank you for making Price a great place to live.
