Price American Legion Baseball opened up the 2013 season Wednesday night with a 7-6 win over Hunter at the USU Eastern baseball field.

JD Grasso took the mound in the opener, giving up only one earned run in two innings to grab the win. Nick Rhoades threw three innings of middle relief and Steven Zamatakis earned the save in the final frames.

This is the second year that Price has been part of the Salt Lake Valley League and it is the first opening day win for the team since joining. The first several years the team played as an independent.

Coach Willie Ellington said they joined the Salt Lake Valley league to be able to face better competition than in the past.

“Our boys are really excited to play,” he said. “We have some good talent, including several from the Carbon High team and four from the prep team. We also have many returning players this season.”

The team plays its home games at the USU Eastern Field in north Price. The team resumes league play on Monday at home against Hillcrest, followed by another home game against Cyprus on Wednesday. The Monday game begins at 6 p.m. Wednesday, the team will have an early start with first pitch at 4 p.m.
