Carbon High School Principal Bruce Bean received his first teaching job in Carbon County in 1986, beginning with physical education as well as coaching football. These positions were given to Bean at Mont Harmon Middle School.

From there, Bean made the move to Carbon High School, where he began teaching biology, sports medicine and human anatomy. Alongside his teaching responsibilities, Bean still found time to coach volleyball and girls’ basketball.

In total, Bean has coached boys’ and girls’ basketball, wrestling, track and field, volleyball, softball and baseball. Over the course of his 32 years in education, Bean has won 3A Coach of The Year in 2005 and the Volleyball Coach of the Year 1A and 5A in 2013. He also received four Utah State Championships.

Bean taught and coached at Carbon High until the year 2007, when he became the assistant principal. He was then given the job of principal at Mont Harmon Middle School before being welcomed back to Carbon High as the principal in 2012.

Those that work with Bean state that he has an uncanny ability to de-escalate any situation. Whether it be a stressed student or irate parent, Bean is great at listening and defusing situations presented to him.

Bean loves his family, especially his grandchildren Jaxon, Evey and Dawson. Bean has been recognized as doing great work for Carbon High as well as the district and loves the students and community.
