With more than 30 years of teaching and administrative experience under her belt, Karen Bedont is proud to call Lighthouse High School her home.

Karen graduated from the University of Utah in 1984 with a bachelor’s in English. In the same year, she began teaching at Granite Park Junior High School. Although an English teacher by degree, she has taught everything from algebra to zoology. During her time with Granite School District, Karen also worked at the district office in student support services.

In 1997, Karen and her family moved to the Castle Country. She began teaching at Pinnacle Canyon Academy, where she spent two years teaching. In 2000, she was hired at Lighthouse. She loved her time teaching and working with the kids on a daily basis.

During her time at Lighthouse, she began working on her Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership through the University of Phoenix. Karen began her administration career in 2011 when she became the vice principal at Mont Harmon Junior High, holding the position for 6 years.

Before the 2017-18 school year began, Bedont returned to Lighthouse as principal. She was excited to return “back home” and work with the students at Lighthouse once again. She is enthusiastic and brings a great attitude for a positive environment for both staff and students.

When she is not acting as principal, Karen loves to spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She also loves anything to do with Disney, whether it’s visiting Disneyland or Disney World, or simply watching a Disney movie.

She also has a passion for the theater world and can often be found in productions with the Castle Valley Community Theater.
