On June 15, Project H.O.P.E. students celebrated passing a work success class taught by Mary Schulz from the Department of Workforce Services. This class is the crucial, first step in the program.
Parents, students and administrators of Pinnacle High School as well as employees of Workforce Services were in attendance. At the celebratory breakfast, students received certificates and their special Project H.O.P.E. scrubs. which will be worn throughout the year while on healthcare internships throughout Carbon County.
Then, last week, students took part in the Utah Area Health Education Centers (AHEC) Health Exploration Summer Camp held at Dixie State University. They attended from June 18-21 and were able to explore the following healthcare careers:
– Surgical Technician
– Physician’s Assistant
– Dental Hygienist
– Physician
– Athletic Trainer
– Physical Therapist
– Veterinarian
– Public Health
– Dentist
– Phlebotomist
– Pharmacist
– And many more!
AHEC documented their time at the camp online, which you can view by clicking here.
Students also were given a tour of Rocky Vista University, which is the only DO Medical Program in the state of Utah. It is located in Ivins, UT. While at the medical school, they participated in workshops about osteopathic manipulation, sonography and anatomy. The students also attended lectures geared toward those planning to attend medical school.
