Emery County Public Lands officials expressed optimism Tuesday about the ongoing Lands Bill battle.
Officials reported the Governor’s Office was committed to helping push the Lands Bill forward.
Public Lands Director Ray Peterson said, “The next stepВ we’ve got isВ we’ve requested to be on the agenda for the next Constitutional Defense Committee meeting and ask for their support.”
Peterson said the State’s release language and reluctance to designate more wilderness areas beyond the wilderness study could pose problems with getting the Lands Bill passed.
Sen. Mike Lee plans to host a conference call to voice concerns and discuss the bill. Letters of support, which officials hope Lee will provide, are required before the State will approve such bills.
