Press Release

A night time triathlon returns to Price as teenager Joel Seeley attempts to revive it. This year’s triathlon is named the Moonlight Triathlon, showing the premise that the triathlon will be held in the evening, under the moonlight and near the full moon on July 20. Seeley participated in the Lunatic Triathlon when he was younger and loved it.

The founder of the Lunatic Triathlon moved away but, with the help of the Southeast Utah Health Department, Seeley wants to bring back a night time triathlon and promote healthy habits in Carbon County.

“I had a lot of fun participating in the Lunatic Triathlon and just like it was formed, my friends and I wanted something like it to keep us active during the summer,” Seeley stated.

The health department sponsored the kids race, so the first 30 kids who register are free. The kids race will begin at 8 p.m. with participants swimming from one end of the pool to the other then biking around Washington Park twice, finishing with running one lap around the park.

The normal adult sprint triathlon is a three mile run, then a 12 mile bike ride finishing with a short swim. You can complete this individually, in a duo or as a three-person team. There is even a 5K-only option for runners. The adult race starts at 10 p.m. and lights are required.

“We are very excited to bring a triathlon option back to Price and we hope this will be an event for the whole family to participate in,” Seeley said. Participants can register on their Facebook page, Moonlight Triathlon.
