Local residents are being advised by Wellington City Police of a raffle ticket scam moving across the Carbon County area. According to Wellington police, Ricky Olsen has been selling tickets for the past two weeks in Price and Wellington. Olsen claims that ticket sales will support a local family who recently lost their loved one to an all-terrain vehicle accident.
According to Wellington Police Officer Chad Feichko no such raffle exists.
“Olsen has been out selling tickets for $1 a piece,” Feichko explained. “He’s even had his 13-year-old son selling the tickets.”
Olsen claims that funds will be donated to the Levi Armstrong family. Armstrong passed away July 20 after sustaining injuries in an ATV accident near Joe’s Valley. The family of Armstrong denies any connection with Olsen or the fundraiser.
Feichko encouragest anyone who has purchased raffle tickets claiming to benefit the Armstrong family to contact police immediately. He also asks that anyone with information or contact with Olsen call Wellington police immediately at either 637-5213 or through public dispatch at 637-0890.
