Three projects in Carbon, Emery, San Juan Counties were recently awarded $7 million in grants and loans by the Utah Permanent Community Impact Fund Board.

On Feb. 4, the Community Impact Board awarded the San Juan County Municipal Building Authority a $3 million grant, along with a $1.5 million low-interest loan to build a multi-use health group building.

At the same February meeting, the Board voted to fund a $552,000 grant to the Carbon County Municipal Building Authority for construction of new soccer fields, along with a restroom and parking lot at the Price, Utah fairgrounds property.

Castle Valley Special Service District was also awarded a grant and loan combination totaling $1.9 million for capital improvements.

“These are important projects that improve the quality of life for the people of eastern and southern Utah,” said San Juan County Commissioner Bruce Adams. “The Community Impact Board is dedicated to supporting our rural communities.”

The CIB awards grants and low-interest loans to cities, towns and counties impacted by mining and the extraction of oil and gas on federal land. Projects funded by the CIB benefit rural Utah by creating safer, more livable communities. The fund is managed by the Utah Housing and Community Development Division, which is part of the Department of Workforce Services.
