In an effort to quell recent rumors, as well as possible panic, the Emery County Sheriff’s Office (ECSO) released a statement on Wednesday evening regarding remains found in Huntington.

The office reported that while remains were indeed discovered, they are not of human origin.

A call was made to the ECSO Dispatch Center at around 3 a.m. on Monday. The call came from a young mother in Huntington that had been awake with her baby and noticed remains on her porch.

A detective responded to the scene, where the unpleasant discovery turned out to be the remains of bear paws. The ECSO stated that, with the recent spring bear hunt that has taken place in Utah, a nearby taxidermist had been hired to skin a bear for a customer and placed the remains in a garbage can located outside of their shop.

It was decided that animals, like a dog or multiple dogs on the loose, discovered the paws after tipping over said garbage can and took them.

“Easy to see why one would think the remains were human, but they are not,” the ECSO concluded.
